In a heartbreaking incident, eight children lost their lives while playing cricket in the Shangla district of Northern Pakistan.
The mountainous region of Shangla in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa became the site of the unfortunate event, as a group of 15 kids had set up a cricket pitch near a sand rock, which tragically collapsed due to a landslide. Despite heavy rainfall in the area in recent days, the children overlooked the potential danger and proceeded to play.
Trapped in the rubble, the children were buried alive, prompting the swift response of local residents, rescue teams, and the army. So far, the Pakistani army has recovered the bodies of eight victims, while the rescue operation is still ongoing.

The children, aged between 12 and 15, were the latest casualties in a series of monsoon-related incidents that have claimed around 50 lives in Pakistan over the past two weeks. The news of this tragic event has sent shockwaves through the Shangla district, prompting the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to assure residents of an updated disaster management strategy.
While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had expressed its commitment to developing cricket across all regions of the country, the challenging geographical location of KP province has presented difficulties. With the threat of future incidents looming, citizens are being cautioned to remain vigilant.
