ENGW VS SAW, Match 13th of 31 at ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 saw the defending champions England lose their third match to slip at the 7th position in the points table.

Invited to bat first, the English Women could only manage 235/9 in 50 overs. In reply, South Africa Women stuttered a bit while chasing but somehow, in the end, managed to register their third win in a row to climb up at the 2nd position in the points table only behind the behemoths Australia Women.

    ENGW vs SAW Highlights:

    English Innings:

English opener Beaumont was in great touch as she went on to score 62 off 97; however, she kept losing partners at the other end. Wyatt (3), Knight (9) and Sciver (16) could not lend their support to Beaumont to form a formidable partnership.

Jones (53) came in to bat at no. 5 and constructed a 107 run stand with Beaumont for the 4th wicket that ultimately helped England reach a respectable total. However, in the latter part of the innings, they both departed in quick succession, which made the acceleration at the back end of English innings almost impossible.

Marizanne Kapp grabbed a fifer for the Proteas while Klass accounted for two English batters.

    Proteas Innings:

Laura Wolvaardt, the Proteas opener (77), played till the 36th over of the South African innings to ensure that her team got close to the target. She received valuable support from Britts (23) and Sune Luus (36).

After Laura’s dismissal, England came back in the game with two quick wickets. At the end of the 44th over, the equation had come down to 36 required off 36, with Marizanne Kapp and Chetty in the middle.

Kapp scored 32 off 42, including 3 fours and a six that ultimately helped South Africa chase down the total in the last over with 4 balls to spare.

    Player of the match:

Marizzane Kapp for picking up 5 wickets and scoring a valuable 32 runs.
