The 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in India, just a month away, holds immense significance as it might mark the last major ICC tournament where the renowned quartet of batting greats – Virat Kohli (India), Steve Smith (Australia), Joe Root (England), and Kane Williamson (New Zealand) – commonly referred to as the ‘Fab Four,’ will grace the stage together.

Since the term ‘Fab Four’ was coined by the New Zealand legend Martin Crowe, these cricketing icons have achieved remarkable feats and etched their names in the annals of the sport with a plethora of runs and numerous records.

However, the reality is that time waits for no one. With Virat Kohli nearing 35 in November, Steve Smith at 34, Joe Root approaching 33 in December, and Kane Williamson presently 33 years old, they are certainly not getting any younger. Looking ahead to the 2027 50-over World Cup, they will all be in their late 30s, making it increasingly unlikely that they will simultaneously feature in the white-ball format.
