Fakhar Zaman joined the Lahore Qalandars squad for the 2017 Pakistan Super League, receiving mentorship from Brendon McCullum, a seasoned New Zealand player. Despite his initial seasons being marred by team setbacks, with Lahore finishing at the bottom of the league table each time, Zaman showcased consistent individual performances, amassing 739 runs, including a pivotal innings of 94 runs in 2018.

It was his navy coach, Azam Khan, who recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue professional cricket.
