India has suffered defeats in two matches of the five-match Test series against Australia. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Nitish Reddy, other players have failed to perform as expected. Due to the team’s disappointing performance, head coach Gautam Gambhir is facing several tough questions. Meanwhile, former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali has stated that Gambhir lacks coaching skills.
On his YouTube channel, Basit Ali said, “Gautam Gambhir does not know the art of coaching. There is no doubt that he led Kolkata to a trophy, but T20 cricket does not require much coaching. In Test matches, the coach is also tested—what he thinks and plans while sitting outside the field.”
Responding to a report about discussions in the dressing room, Gambhir said on the eve of the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, “I don’t think I need to respond to any report. All I can say is that honesty is very important if you want to move forward and achieve great things.”
When asked about Rohit Sharma’s absence, Gambhir replied, “The head coach is here. That’s enough.” He assured that everything is fine with Rohit but did not confirm whether India’s captain would be part of Friday’s playing eleven. He added that they would assess the pitch and finalize the team the next day.
