During the recent BCCI review meeting in Mumbai, discussions about the future Indian captain in Test and ODI cricket took place. Despite concerns over his form in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rohit Sharma reportedly told selectors he would continue as captain until a successor is appointed. He added that he would fully support the next captain. It was decided that Rohit would remain ODI captain for the Champions Trophy, with future decisions to follow after the tournament.

Meanwhile, during the meeting, the selectors considered Jasprit Bumrah as a potential captain but also discussed the need for a strong vice-captain to manage his workload. While Rishabh Pant was favored for the Test captaincy, coach Gautam Gambhir supported Yashasvi Jaiswal instead.

In ODI cricket, Suryakumar Yadav’s chances of captaining were diminished due to his uncertain position in the format. The selectors are likely to appoint Bumrah as both Test and ODI captain, with the provision for a strong vice-captain to step in when Bumrah rests, similar to Australia’s setup with Pat Cummins.
