Sanju Samson had a lacklustre outing in the first T20 against Sri Lanka. He failed to score big even after being dropped once. Samson was completely out of touch at Wankhede and only scored a miserly 5 runs. Later on, in the match, he dropped a simple catch by diving too aggressively. However, the ultimate nail in the coffin was the moment when he failed to stop an easy boundary which could have been the reason for India’s loss.
Hardik Pandya, the current captain of the Indian T20 cricket team, has said that he will back all of his players, but his thoughts seem to differ in the case of Sanju Samson. After the horrible performance of Sanju Samson in the first match, the Indian team management can end up dropping him from the 2nd T20.
The sources close to the team management and Hardik Pandya have claimed that Sanju Samson can make way for Rahul Tripathi, who has been waiting for his turn in the Indian cricket team for a very long time. Rahul Tripathi is almost similar to Sanju Samson in many aspects. He can be the perfect replacement for Samson in the Indian playing XI.
However, there are also reports which claim that the Indian team management is under heavy pressure to give a longer rope to Sanju Samson in this T20 series against Sri Lanka. Until now, Sanju Samson has not been given consistent chances in the T20 matches for India.
