Cricket South Africa officially announced Heinrich Klaasen’s immediate retirement from Test cricket on January 8. Despite a promising first-class record with an average of 46.09 from 85 matches, Klaasen featured in only four Tests for the Proteas, the last being against West Indies in March 2023.

Initially breaking through in 2019, he earned his maiden cap in Ranchi during the India tour, but after almost four years, Klaasen’s Test career concluded with a total of 104 runs and a best score of 35. He was eventually replaced in the XI by Kyle Verreynne.

Heinrich Klaasen has decided to fully commit to white-ball cricket after a successful 2023, achieving a striking rate of 172.71 in T20s and 140.66 in ODIs. Despite acknowledging that Test cricket is his favorite format, Klaasen, in a heartfelt statement, announced his retirement from red-ball cricket.

Reflecting on his journey, he expressed gratitude for the invaluable experiences and the honor of representing his country in Tests. Klaasen now looks forward to embracing new challenges in the limited-overs formats with enthusiasm.
