ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is scheduled to be played from 5th October 2023 and will end on 19th November 2023 with the final clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. There is still a lot of uncertainty about the venues and dates, as Jay Shah recently announced that the World Cup 2023 schedule will undergo a few changes. The uncertainty is also in the Indian squad for the World Cup 2023, as many key players are suffering from injuries, and the ones who are playing are failing to perform.
Rohit Sharma is the confirmed opener for India in the ODI World Cup 2023, but whether he will be accompanied by Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan or Shikhar Dhawan when he comes to open the innings is still a question that has not been answered. Shubman Gill performed exceptionally well in the ODI Series against New Zealand, but since the WTC Final, he has failed to register a substantial knock in international cricket.

He even failed in the first ODI of the West Indies Tour. However, Ishan Kishan is showing a few good glimpses. In the first ODI against West Indies, he blasted a quick-fire half-century where all the other Indian players seemed to struggle. He is expected to get a few more chances to prove himself. But the real question is whether needs to experiment this much as Shikhar Dhawan has always performed brilliantly for India in the ICC Tournaments.
Shikhar Dhawan has played 10 ODI World Cup matches so far for India in his career. In that, he has won the Man of the Match Awards on three occasions. Dhawan has scored 537 runs in these ten games at an average of 53.7. His strike rate is also close to 100, which makes him suitable for modern-day attacking cricket. Many former cricketers like Wasima Jaffer and others have said that they want Dhawan in the Indian squad for ODI World Cup 2023.
