ICC ODI World Cup 2023: Trent Boult to be Added in New Zealand Cricket Team

Trent Boult will most likely return for ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in New Zealand Cricket Team

New Zealand coach Gary Stead revealed on Thursday that despite not having a national contract, fast bowler Trent Boult could make a comeback for the New Zealand team in the upcoming ODI World Cup.

Boult had opted out of a contract with New Zealand Cricket last year to play in Australia’s Big Bash League. Although he wasn’t offered a central contract this year, New Zealand Cricket provided him with a “casual playing agreement.”

Stead expressed his hope that Boult would reunite with Tim Southee to form a formidable bowling partnership at the World Cup, scheduled to start in October in India.

Stead confirmed positive discussions with Boult, stating that he has indicated his availability for the tournament, and unless he faces any injuries, it is highly likely that Boult will be included in the squad, given his status as one of the best ODI bowlers in the world.

Boult, who has an impressive record of 187 ODI wickets and 74 T20I wickets for New Zealand, had claimed 17 wickets during the 2019 World Cup.

Stead also mentioned the possibility of Boult returning to the New Zealand Test squad for the home series against South Africa and Australia next year, although the details are still being worked out due to Boult’s commitments to other leagues. However, Boult has expressed his willingness to play for the national team.
