ICC Unveils New Plan for Champions Trophy Amidst Potential Pakistan Cricket Board Withdrawal

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) if it would accept hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy in a hybrid model after India refused to play in Pakistan. The PCB confirmed it received an email from the ICC stating that India would not travel to Pakistan for the tournament. If the PCB agrees, the plan is for India’s matches and the final to be held in Dubai while the PCB would still receive full hosting fees and most of the matches.

The Indian Cricket Board informed the ICC that they would only agree to a hybrid model if the final is played in Dubai and not in Pakistan. So far, the PCB has not responded to the ICC’s request, and they are reviewing the situation and consulting with the government for further guidance if needed.

If the PCB chooses not to host under the hybrid model, the ICC might consider moving the entire tournament to South Africa. While a PCB source previously stated there was no current discussion about a hybrid model, they mentioned that they would seek more clarity from the ICC regarding India’s decision.

Meanwhile, Pakistani media have speculated on possible responses from the PCB, such as avoiding matches with India altogether or taking legal action against the ICC and the BCCI at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Geneva. India has not toured Pakistan since the 2008 Mumbai attacks, and the two teams only face each other in ICC events.
