Ikram Alikhil’s cricketing journey has been marked by various significant milestones. He made his Twenty20 debut for Band-e-Amir Dragons in the 2017 Shpageeza Cricket League on September 14, 2017, offering a glimpse of his early potential in T20 cricket. Prior to this, he was part of Afghanistan’s squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, indicating his promise in youth cricket. A particularly memorable moment was his role in Afghanistan’s victory in the 2017 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup, where he scored an unbeaten century in the final, contributing to Afghanistan’s first-ever ACC Under-19 Cup title.

Continuing his journey, in December 2017, he was named in Afghanistan’s squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, showcasing his consistent presence in the youth setup. Alikhil then transitioned to the longer format of the game, making his first-class debut for Speen Ghar Region in the 2018 Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament on March 1, 2018. He also ventured into List A cricket, debuting for Speen Ghar Region in the 2018 Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament on July 10, 2018, displaying his adaptability across different formats.

His experience extended to domestic T20 cricket when, in September 2018, he was named in Balkh’s squad for the first edition of the Afghanistan Premier League tournament. In December 2018, he received the opportunity to represent Afghanistan’s under-23 team in the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup, further solidifying his presence in the national setup. The pinnacle of his early career came in February 2019 when he was named in Afghanistan’s Test and One Day International (ODI) squads for their series against Ireland in India. He made his ODI debut on March 2, 2019, and his Test debut on March 15, 2019, marking a significant step in his international career. In June 2019, Alikhil was a late addition to Afghanistan’s squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup, filling in for Mohammad Shahzad due to a knee injury, which reinforced his role in the global cricketing landscape.
