Australia’s former captain Ricky Ponting makes a bold prediction on the Nagpur pitch in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy! The wicket was a hot topic before the opening Test and it was clear that the surface was a spin-friendly track that had the Aussies struggling.
According to Ponting, he saw the images of the pitch on social media a few days ago and expected the outcome, “India’s best chance of beating Australia is to prepare turning wickets”, he said. India’s team management plays a crucial role in the nature of the pitch, and Ponting recalls that during his playing days, the players had no say in how the wickets were prepared.
But to India’s credit, they have conquered bouncy surfaces in Australia and won on rank turners in India.
And Ponting’s not just talking about the pitch, he’s also made a prediction about the leading wicket-taker of the series – Ravindra Jadeja. The returning left-arm spinner wreaked havoc on the Aussies on day one with a five-wicket haul, leading Ponting to say, “As the series goes on, if his body holds up, I think he could very well be the leading wicket-taker in this entire series.”
Will Ponting’s predictions come true? Follow the action in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to find out!
