Prithvi Shaw was finally selected in the Indian squad for the T20 series against New Zealand after being ignored for quite a long time now by the BCCI Selectors. However, the young Indian opener is yet to get an opportunity to open the inning for India in the series against New Zealand. It is confirmed that Prithvi Shaw is not going to feature in the playing XI of India in the 3rd T20I against New Zealand.
Before the series began, Hardik Pandya said in the press conference that he would persist with Shubman Gill at the top as he is doing fine at the moment. Gill has recently scored a double hundred for India in the ODI series against New Zealand. He was awarded player of the series for scoring 360 runs in the three-match ODI series.
However, Shubman Gill has failed to replicate his form in the T20Is so far, and this made people question the decision of Hardik Pandya to back Gill over Shaw in the T20I series against New Zealand.
In the 2nd T20I, the entire Indian batting line-up failed due to the pitch that did not let anyone play freely. This has given Shubman Gill another chance to prove his worth as a T20I batter as Hardik Pandya is blaming the pitch for the poor outing of India in the last two matches in the T20Is against New Zealand.
Hence, Prithvi Shaw won’t fit in the playing XI in the 3rd T20I as Ishan Kishan cannot be replaced due to him being the only wicketkeeper batter for India in the series.
