Shreyas Iyer has underperformed in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023. He has failed to grab the opportunity at the number four position and it seems that Indian cricket team management could decide to leave him out of the playing XI in the upcoming match against Sri Lanka.
India is scheduled to play on 2nd November 2023 against Sri Lanka. The match will mark the seventh group game for India. Rohit Sharma led team has won six games in a row and is almost qualified for the semi-finals. Shreyas Iyer’s batting is the only weak link currently in the Indian batting line-up.
In the last two games, Suryakumar Yadav was included as replacement for Hardik Pandya who injured himself in the match against Bangladesh. Suryakumar Yadav did not get a chance for showcase his talent in the first match he played due to an unfortunate run out. However, he made the most of his chance in the second game. SKY scored quick 47 when India was struggling against England.

Suryakumar’s knock helped India reach a significant total which in the end was enough for the win. Hardik Pandya is expected to make a return against Sri Lanka and this means that one player from the playing XI which played against England would need to go out. Suryakumar Yadav has made a strong case for himself and this means that Shreyas Iyer could be sitting out against Sri Lanka.
