Team India has announced its 15 men provisional squad for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 which is scheduled to be played in October and November 2023 in India. There were no surprises in the squad as it is an exact replica of the Asia Cup 2023 squad announced by Team India a couple of weeks ago.

Suryakumar Yadav has been preferred over Sanju Samson who has an astonishing average in the OneDay Internationals. On the other hand, SKY has failed in the ODIs so far but the team management has decided to include him as an X factor. Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul both have been selected as the wicketkeeper batters.

Kishan recently made an 82 against Pakistan in Asia Cup while batting at number five and this has pursued the selectors to stay with him in the upcoming ODI World Cup. KL Rahul is yet to play a game for India since the IPL 2023 and still he is selected in the ODI World Cup 2023 squad.

Rahul’s inclusion is definitely a point of debate as Samson was clearly doing a good job with the bat and gloves in hands in the ODI format. Shreyas Iyer who has recently returned from injury failed in the ODI against Pakistan in Asia Cup but has managed to secure his spot as the number four batter for India in the upcoming World Cup.

Kuldeep Yadav remains the solitary leg spinner in the squad despite the World Cup being scheduled to be played in India. Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja have made the cut as well.

Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna are the only two players from the Asia Cup 2023 squad who have missed out on the World Cup 2023 squad.
