As India concludes its tour of South Africa, the focus now shifts to the T20I series against Afghanistan, commencing on January 11. Speculation surrounds the probable India squad, with potential surprises, including Rohit Sharma’s anticipated return to the T20I lineup.

Rohit Sharma, absent from T20Is since November 10 against England, may make a comeback, likely reclaiming the opening slot. Shubman Gill or Yashasvi Jaiswal is poised to partner with Rohit, with the other likely batting in the first-down position.

The return of Sanju Samson after a prolonged absence is expected, possibly leading to KL Rahul’s rest. Jitesh Sharma is set to be the second wicketkeeper alongside regular starter Ishan Kishan.

In the middle order, wicketkeepers, along with Tilak Verma and Rinku Singh, are probable selections. Considering the bowling department, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah are likely to be rested, preserving them for the T20 World Cup.

In their absence, bowlers such as Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar are poised to step in. Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Ravi Bishnoi are anticipated selections for the spinners’ department. The squad composition reflects strategic decisions in preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024.
