India Squad for T20 World Cup: BCCI has finalized India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, set to be played in the West Indies and United States of America. India will start their World Cup campaign on June 5, 2024 with a match against Ireland.
The Indian team has two wicketkeeper-batters in the form of Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant. However, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan are not included in the squad, due to strong competition. Even Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh have been placed in the reserves group.
The BCCI announced the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup after a meeting between secretary Jay Shah and chief selector Ajit Agarkar in Ahmedabad. Hardik Pandya is named as the vice-captain, while Rohit Sharma will be once again captaining the Indian side.
Hard-hitting batter from Chennai Super Kings, Shivam Dube also made the cut on the back of a stunning IPL season. Leg-spinner Yuzi Chahal along with wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav will be the main spinners in the squad.
Virat Kohli, who is the current orange cap holder in the IPL 2024 has silenced all the critics and has been included in the squad, due to a phenomenal IPL performance and will most likely be opening the batting along with Rohit Sharma or Yashasvi Jaiswal.
The selectors have shown faith in Yashasvi Jaiswal, knowing his potential and ability to perform big. The T20 World cup is scheduled to start on June 2 in the USA and the Caribbean. Team India will open their campaign against Ireland on June 5 in New York.
