In their preparation for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Team India will aim to clinch the series as they face Australia in the second ODI at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Sunday, September 24. Under the leadership of KL Rahul, India secured a comfortable 5-wicket victory over Australia, captained by Pat Cummins, in the opening ODI at Mohali’s PCA Stadium on Friday, September 22, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
Mohammed Shami’s exceptional five-wicket performance restricted Australia to a below-par total of 276 on a flat Mohali pitch. The opening partnership of Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who both reached fifties, played a pivotal role by sharing a 142-run stand, putting India in a favorable position during the run chase.
Gill led the scoring with 74 runs off 63 balls, enjoying his first international match in front of his home crowd, while Gaikwad contributed 71 runs off 77 balls. Nevertheless, it was Captain KL Rahul (remaining unbeaten with 58 runs off 63 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (scoring 50 runs off 49 balls) who ensured India successfully reached the target with 8 balls to spare.
