India vs West Indies: Pujara to Retain Spot, Rohit Sharma to Lead the Test Team

Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, will be available for selection in the upcoming series against West Indies. Earlier, there were rumors suggesting that Rohit might be rested for the Test series and someone else would temporarily take charge.

However, a senior official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed those rumors. On the other hand, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Jasprit Bumrah will not be available for the IND vs WI series as they are recovering from injuries. Consequently, Cheteshwar Pujara is expected to retain his spot in the team.

Although Pujara’s presence is assured, the selectors are reportedly interested in including someone like Sarfaraz Khan for the two Tests. Sarfaraz has been performing consistently in the Ranji Trophy, scoring a significant number of runs. However, securing a place in the team has proven to be challenging for him.

There has been speculation regarding Rohit Sharma taking a break from Test cricket due to his recent poor form. However, with the ICC World Cup 2023 approaching, the series against West Indies could serve as a platform for him to regain his form.

Despite struggling in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, Rohit’s statistics paint a different picture. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), he has maintained an average of 49.27 in the last 12 months, including a century and four fifties in 13 innings, with a strike rate of 111.52. In Tests, although he has played only five matches, he holds an average of 37.5.
