Indian squad for Proteas T20is: Kohli to be rested, Umran Malik in probables

BCCI has announced that the Indian squad for the T20i series in June against South Africa will be declared on the eve of the IPL 2022 finals. The sources have come forward with reliable news that senior players will be rested to manage the workload and try out new interesting prospects who can be used at the T20i World Cup scheduled to be played in Australia later this year.

Who will be rested?

Virat Kohli, the run machine, is going through a rough patch, and experts have advised that he needs a break to look back on his approach and find the form required for India to win the trophy. He is the first and foremost candidate for being rested during the South African series.

Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper, is going through a similar phase to Kohli in the Indian Premier League, and Indian selectors can very well look to rest him in the T20is against Proteas.

Other than Rohit and Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah could also be rested during the series to provide young Indian bowlers with an opportunity to experience the international stage.

Who will lead the Indian cricket team?

Most probably, KL Rahul will lead the Indian team against South Africa in the absence of Rohit Sharma. Rahul is currently leading Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022 with grace and dignity. He has transformed into a great leader over the course of his years. Selectors will put their hopes on him to secure the victory against South Africa.

Who can make his debut in the Indian squad?

Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh are the prime candidates for being included in the Indian squad for the first time ever. Umran Malik has impressed everyone with his express pace during the ongoing Tata IPL. He has bowled even in excess of 155mph during the tournament. Indian selectors will be hoping that he replicates the success in the South Africa T20i series and go on to become an asset for India on the bouncy pitches of Australia in the World Cup.

Arshdeep Singh is another bowler who has impressed with his pressure handling and exceptional death bowling in the past two seasons of the Indian Premier League. He can become a lethal partner of Jasprit Bumrah in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Most likely, he will receive a chance to represent India against South Africa in T20is.
