Indian Women Cricket Legend Mithali Raj Announces Retirement from International Cricket

Mithali Raj, the legendary batter for India in Women’s Cricket, had decided to hang up her boots. She decided to quit international cricket on 8th June 2022, and posted a heartfelt note for the same on her social media handle. While sharing the retirement post on Twitter, Mithali Raj added in the captions, “Thank you for all your love & support over the years! I look forward to my 2nd innings with your blessing and support.”

Mithali was last seen in action for India in the 50 over World Cup, which was held earlier this year in New Zealand. She wanted to win the World Cup for her country before being retired, but her dream remained a dream as India failed to clinch the trophy. However, the legend has produced countless memorable moments for India in International Women’s Cricket.

She started her career in international cricket at the age of 16 in 1999. Throughout her exciting journey in the cricketing world, she represented India in 232 ODIs, 89 T20is and 12 Test matches. Mithali has led India to the finals of two World Cups in her fruitful career.

In ODI cricket for women, she is the most prolific batter ever. On her debut, Mithali Raj scored a brilliant century and has never looked back since then. She scaled great heights to become a modern-day legend. Mithali finished with 7,805 runs in ODI cricket which is the most by any batter. She also registered 7 centuries and a massive 64 half-centuries in her ODI career.

She also has the highest score for a woman in Test cricket for India. Her 214 runs against England in 2022 made her the only Indian women cricketer to cross the benchmark of double centuries in Test cricket. Her score is also the second-highest score in the history of Test cricket.
