IPL 2022: Former Purple Cap Holder Joins LSG in Stead of Mark Wood

Andrew Tye, the Australian bowler and erstwhile purple cap holder in IPL, has joined Lucknow Super Giants in place of Mark Wood, who recently pulled out of the tournament.

The franchise shared the news on its Twitter handle to confirm that they have found a replacement for injured England pacer Mark Wood.

Recently Mark Wood suffered an elbow injury in the first Test against West Indies on England’s tour of West Indies, due to which he is advised by the physicians not to exert pressure on his elbow.

Lucknow Super Giants announced the news a few days ago that left a significant hole in the franchise’s bowling division.

With the tournament scheduled to begin on 26th March, LSG had to think and move fast to secure the services of an international bowler.

LSG has successfully managed to rope in the T20 specialist, Andrew Tye, who will be expected to deliver in the crunch situations for the newly born franchise.

Andrew Tye has represented Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals earlier in the IPL and has 40 wickets to his name in 27 matches.

Tye won the purple cap in 2018 when he picked up 24 wickets for Punjab Kings in just 14 matches with an economy hovering around 8.00.

In the 32 T20is that Andrew Tye has played, he sent an impressive 47 batters back into the pavilion. Tye is known for his death-bowling and pin-point Yorkers in the death overs.

Lucknow Super Giants will be hoping that Andrew Tye can lead the inexperienced pace attack of the newborn franchise in Tata IPL 2022.

LSG will begin their campaign in Tata IPL 2022 on 28th March against Gujarat Titans at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
