IPL 2022, GT VS MI: Mumbai wins the last over thriller

GT vs MI was a nerve-wracking thriller that went till the last ball. Daniel Sams kept his cool to defend 9 runs in the last over against the likes of David Miller, Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan. Mumbai won its second match of the season, and Gujarat suffered their second consecutive loss for the first time in the tournament.

GT vs MI Highlights:

Gujarat Titans won the toss and opted to field first.

Playing XIs:

GT: Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Hardik Pandya (c), David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Pradeep Sangwan, Lockie Ferguson, Alzarri Joseph, Mohammed Shami

MI: Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Kieron Pollard, Daniel Sams, Murugan Ashwin, Kumar Kartikeya, Jasprit Bumrah, Riley Meredith

MI Inning:

Mumbai Indians had a blitzing start with both openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma firing for the first time in IPL 2022. The duo put on 74 in just 7.3 overs before Sharma was sent back. Kishan maintained the tempo of the inning and took MI to 100 run mark in just 10 overs.

Ishan Kishan scored 45 off 29 while Rohit Sharma contributed 43 off 28. The middle order failed to carry on the baton handed to them by Sharma and Kishan. Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard had a forgettable evening. Pollard, in particular, was very disappointing as he could muster only 4 runs in 14 balls.

Tim David struck the ball hard in the last few overs to get Mumbai to a respectable total. David played a fantastic knock of 44 off 21. Mumbai Indians finished with 177/6 in 20 overs.

GT Inning:

Gujarat Titans had the start they would have hoped for as Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill both scored half-centuries to put Gujarat ahead in the game. They formed a 106 run stand for the first wicket.

However, after Shubman and Shah’s departure, GT lacked the intent to finish the game as soon as possible. Mumbai managed to draw out the game till the final over by picking up a few wickets in the middle overs and bowling tight lengths.

Unfortunately for GT, well set David Miller could not dispatch Daniel Sams in the final over to pull off another victory for Gujarat Titans. GT vs MI finished with Gujarat conceding the loss by 5 runs.
