IPL 2022, KKR VS SRH: KKR hands SRH its 5th consecutive loss

KKR vs SRH was an essential fixture in which there was a lot at stake for both the teams. KKR comfortably defeated SRH by 54 runs to rise in the points table and still stay attached to a glimmer of hope for making it to the playoffs. With this loss, SRH has suffered the same fate as KKR and now depends on other teams to make it to the qualifiers.

KKR vs SRH Highlights:

Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and opted to bat first.

Playing XIs:

KKR: Venkatesh Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer (c), Nitish Rana, Sam Billings (wk), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Umesh Yadav, Tim Southee, Varun Chakaravarthy

SRH: Abhishek Sharma, Kane Williamson (c), Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Shashank Singh, Washington Sundar, Marco Jansen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Umran Malik

KKR Inning:

Venkatesh Iyer was dismissed in the 2nd over of the inning, and Nitesh Rana was promoted to bat at number three. Rana and Rahane had a good partnership, with both of them scoring at a brisk rate and putting pressure on bowlers.

However, they were both dismissed in the 8th over by Umran Malik, which stopped KKR’s momentum. Shreyas Iyer did not last long, which left Sam Billings and Andre Russell to do the job for the team.

Russell and Billings took calculated risks to propel their team’s total to a significant number. Russell remained unbeaten on 49*.

KKR- 177/6, Andre Russell- 49 off 28, Sam Billings 34 off 29, Umran Malik- 3 wickets for 33

SRH Inning:

Sunrisers Hyderabad needed Williamson to step up and take responsibility for the chase, but he failed to do so. Instead, Abhishek Sharma provided them with a quick start with his fiery knock. However, once Sharma got dismissed, things took a turn for the worse for Hyderabad.

SRH kept losing wickets at regular intervals, and apart from Aiden Markram, no one seemed to trouble the KKR bowlers. They ultimately fell short by 54 runs to register their 7th loss of the tournament.
