MI vs DC, the 2nd last game of Tata IPL before the beginning of playoffs, was an important match in which Delhi’s win could have guaranteed its spot in the eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants.
However, Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets to take out Delhi from the race of the playoffs. With Mumbai’s win, Royal Challengers Bangalore have qualified for the eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants.
In the T20 between MI and DC, Rohit Sharma won the toss and asked his opponent to bat first. Delhi could only score a par total of 159/7 in its innings due to a poor performance from the top-order.

David Warner was dismissed on a mere 5 runs, while the star of the previous two victories for DC, Mitchell Marsh, was removed on the first ball he faced by Jasprit Bumrah.
Prithvi Shaw also played uncharacteristically as he scored 24 off 23. Rishabh Pant and Rovman Powell steadied the inning for DC, but the duo got out in the phase when Delhi needed big hits. Pant scored 39, and Powell had 43 runs.
Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up three wickets, including Rovman Powell and Prithvi Shaw.
In reply to Delhi’s par score, MI struggled a bit but somehow managed to get to the total. Tim David played a brilliant knock of 34 off 11, including 4 massive sixes to ensure his team’s victory.
Dewald Brevis and Ishan Kishan also contributed handsomely with 37 and 48 runs respectively. MI won the game with 5 wickets and 5 balls to spare. However, they still finished the group stage at the bottom of the points table with only 4 wins in 14 games.
