Shreyas Iyer’s back injury has resurfaced again and owing to this, he has been ruled out of the ODI series against Australia.

He didn’t even bat in the fourth Test against Australia and Rohit Sharma admitted in the post-match presser that Iyer’s injury is not looking good at the moment. 

As per reports, Shreyas Iyer is doubtful for the first few games of IPL 2023. Hence, the question arises – Who will captain Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Shreyas Iyer’s absence.

Andre Russell has been one of KKR’s main players. Russell has played for KKR for the most part of his IPL career and has been a match-winner. The all-rounder has featured in 98 matches smashing 2035 runs at an impeccable strike-rate of 177.88 with 10 fifties to his name. He has also taken 89 wickets so far with a five-wicket haul to his name.

2. Sunil Narine

Just like Russell, Sunil Narine has also been one of KKR’s main players over the years. Narine has contributed not only with ball, but with bat too. In 148 IPL matches, he has picked up 152 wickets at a brilliant economy of 6.63 with a five-wicket haul to his name too. With the bat, Narine has scored 1025 runs at a strike-rate of 162.7. 

3. Nitish Rana

Nitish Rana is likely to play all 14 league matches for the team. He has played 91 matches in IPL so far after making his debut in 2016. He has scored 2181 runs at an average of almost 28 and at a strike-rate of 134.22. He has also bowled in 18 innings so far picking up 7 wickets.
