Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by three runs in Match 17 of the IPL 2023 at the MS Chidambaram Stadium.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) emerged victorious against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 17th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Ravichandran Ashwin received the Player of the Match award for his extraordinary all-round performance with both the bat and the bowl.

Despite MS Dhoni’s valiant effort in the final overs, Rajasthan Royals (RR) managed to secure a three-run victory over CSK in their IPL 2023 clash at Chepauk. Sandeep Sharma bowled two perfect blockhole deliveries to restrict Chennai Super Kings to 172/6 in their chase of 176 runs.

MS Dhoni, the captain of Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first against Rajasthan Royals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

Chennai invited Rajasthan to bat first, and Jadeja’s impressive bowling display helped restrict the latter to a total of 175/8. Jadeja took two wickets, conceding just 21 runs in his allotted quota. However, Shimron Hetmyer played a crucial role in rescuing Rajasthan from a tough situation, scoring 30 runs off 18 balls, including two boundaries and an equal number of sixes. Jos Buttler also contributed with a knock of 52 off 36 balls before getting out to Moeen Ali.

During the chase, Chennai started slowly, losing in-form batter Ruturaj Gaikwad early for just 8 runs. Ajinkya Rahane and Devon Conway then added 68 runs for the second wicket before Ashwin removed Rahane for 31(19) and Shivam Dube in the next over. Adam Zampa then claimed a wicket, and Yuzvendra Chahal struck twice in the same over, reducing CSK to 113-6 in 15 overs. In the end, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni added 59 runs in the final five overs, but it was not enough to secure a win for CSK. CSK required 21 runs in the last over, and Dhoni hit a couple of sixes against Sandeep Sharma. However, they were unable to reach the target as the final three deliveries only resulted in three singles, with CSK finishing at 172/6 in response to Rajasthan’s 175/8 in 20 overs.
