Tom Moody, former coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), praised Vijay Shankar’s exceptional performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 9. Shankar’s knock of 63 runs off 24 balls helped GT set a mammoth total of 204 runs, and he earned recognition as the “innings of the tournament” from Moody.
Shankar’s right-handed batting helped him to achieve the first fifty of the ongoing IPL edition in just 19 balls, with four boundaries and five sixes. Moody expressed his delight in Shankar’s performance, stating that he did not expect this type of innings from him, as Shankar struggled to find his form in the past couple of years. The all-rounder proved his critics wrong and is repaying GT’s faith in him after a disappointing season last year.

Moody also revealed his surprise that Shankar was promoted in the batting order ahead of South Africa’s David Miller, but his knock justified the move. The former Australian all-rounder further added that Shankar’s performance was one of the best innings of the tournament.
Shankar will now be seen in action when GT faces Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on April 13. GT will be looking for a bounce-back victory after their first defeat in the tournament against KKR. Shankar’s excellent form would undoubtedly be crucial in helping the team achieve this.
