Irfan Pathan, the former Indian all-rounder and commentator, has highlighted how the contrasting styles of Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) batters Shikhar Dhawan and Liam Livingstone could work well together in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2023). Pathan believes that the calmness and composure of Dhawan, who will lead the team as captain, could act as a great foil for Livingstone’s explosive power-hitting.
Speaking to Star Sports, Pathan said, “Liam Livingstone, according to me, is a destructive batter. His playing style can match Shikhar Dhawan’s because Dhawan can stay calm and run the game. Meanwhile, if you see Livingstone, he plays like fire. So, if you look at it, their hot-cold combination can be very good.”

Notably, PBKS had an underwhelming campaign in IPL 2022, finishing sixth in the points table with seven wins and as many losses in the league stage. However, with Dhawan leading the team this season, Pathan believes that the left-handed opener’s experience could bring a relaxed atmosphere to the dressing room.

Although Dhawan has not tasted much success as a captain in the IPL, Pathan pointed out that his past record should not be a hindrance, and that his experience will prove to be valuable. “The difference that Dhawan brings is that he’ll try to bring a very relaxed atmosphere to the team. He has captained before. He hasn’t been very successful as captain, but that’s the past. Now Shikhar Dhawan is an experienced Shikhar Dhawan,” Pathan added.
PBKS will begin their IPL 2023 campaign against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on April 1, and fans will be eagerly waiting to see how Dhawan and Livingstone’s “hot-cold combination” fares in the tournament.
