Ravi Shastri is confident that 20-year-old batter Tilak Varma will be a significant addition to the Indian T20 team. The former Indian cricket team head coach praised Varma’s talent and maturity, indicating that he will make a world of difference to the Indian middle order.
Varma proved his worth in Mumbai Indians’ recent victory against Delhi Capitals, contributing 41 runs off 29 deliveries and forming a crucial 68-run partnership with captain Rohit Sharma. Varma’s performance was particularly impressive as he kept up a steady scoring pace throughout his innings and helped ease the burden off his fellow batter.

Shastri’s confidence in Varma is not unfounded, as the young batter had a breakout season in IPL 2022, hitting 397 runs in 14 matches at an average of 36.09 after being acquired by MI for INR 1.70 crore in the mega auction.
Speaking on Star Sports, Shastri remarked that Varma’s maturity was an asset both for his franchise and the Indian team. He also added that the youngster’s ability to handle stressful circumstances and make appropriate choices on the field made him stand out from the crowd.

“I would be very surprised if he does not play T20 cricket for India in the next six months or eight months. He has got the maturity, he has got the flare,” said Shastri.
With such praise from a former coach and expert of the game, all eyes will be on Tilak Varma as he looks to maintain his form and prove himself on the international stage.
