IPL 2023: Phil Salt to replace David Warner as opener for Delhi Capitals

Who will open the innings for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023?

With less than 15 days left for the tournament to begin, one thing is troubling the camp of Delhi Capitals and that is the fitness of David Warner. Warner suffered a concussion and also a fracture on his left elbow during the second Test match in India and he subsequently missed the last two Test matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023. Owing to this injury, he also missed the 1st ODI between India and Australia.

There are many players who could take up captaincy duties of Delhi Capitals in absence of David Warner for IPL 2023. However, the big question is – Who will open the innings for Delhi Capitals?

Prithvi Shaw is Delhi Capitals’ primary opener, and as per reports, Phil Salt will be opening the innings along with him if David Warner fails to recover on time. Phil Salt has good experience in opening innings and he is a destructive batsman too. Hence, he could replicate David Warner’s impact on the team. Phil Salt will also serve as a good wicket keeping option for Delhi Capitals as this time Rishabh Pant will not be around.

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League will be starting from March 31 and the last league match will be played on May 21. Defending Champions Gujarat Titans will be facing Chennai Super Kings in the opening encounter.
