Du Plessis had already proven himself as a captain in the previous IPL season when he led the Chennai Super Kings to the playoffs. Hesson revealed that the team management was looking for someone who could demand respect from the team immediately, someone who had captained at an international level before, and someone who had respect from both Indian and international players.
