IPL 2023: Robin Uthappa Shares Insight on Rohit Sharma’s Struggles, Says a Mindset Shift is the Key

Former Indian cricketer believes Rohit Sharma's aggressive template is not working and he needs to revert to his tried and tested formula.

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Robin Uthappa has come forward to speak about the recent struggles of Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma with the bat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Despite calls for Rohit to take a break and focus on the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final, Uthappa believes that the Indian opener does not need a break but rather a change in mindset.

In 13 IPL 2023 matches, Rohit has only scored 257 runs at an average of 19.77, with just one half-century to his name. However, Uthappa is confident that Rohit’s form is not much of an issue when he is batting at the crease, and his troubles lie in his current batting template of “playing uber-aggressive cricket,” which is not working for him.

Uthappa believes that Rohit should revert to his “tried and tested” formula where he takes his time before taking on the bowlers. This approach has worked well for Rohit in the past, where he starts slowly but capitalizes on the amount of time he has taken initially.
