Shreyas Iyer recently picked a back injury and has been struggling with it. He complained of back pain in the 4th India vs Australia Test match and since then has missed all the cricketing action. Iyer is expected to be ruled out of the tournament and his replacement is expected to be announced soon.

Iyer is the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders and his absence is going to leave a huge gap. He is also one of the most prolific batters of Kolkata Knight Riders. Without Shreyas Iyer as their leader KKR can suffer a tragic fate in IPL 2023.

Sunil Narine is a West Indian all-rounder who has been with Kolkata Knight Riders for many years. He has won them many matches with his exceptional talent. Narine is still the best bowler in KKR line-up. Most batters find it hard to play shots against him.

The reliability of Sunil Narine makes him one of the prospects for KKR captaincy in IPL 2023. However, Kolkata Knight Riders can also opt to go with an Indian captain and may hand the reigns of the team to Nitish Rana.
