Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis are opening for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in this edition of the Indian Premier League 2023. Kohli and Faf scored individual half-centuries and guided their team to a comfortable victory against Mumbai Indians in the first match of the tournament for their side. However, in the second match of RCB against KKR, the weak middle order was exposed, and RCB lost the match by a huge margin.
Virat Kohli is the only player in Royal Challengers Bangalore who can play the role of both aggressor and an anchor in the middle overs. RCB is struggling this year in the middle overs due to the absence of Rajat Patidar, who was injured before the tournament. Now, Bangalore needs someone at either number three or four who holds the innings together.
Glenn Maxwell, Michael Bracewell and Dinesh Karthik are all finishers and can’t play the role of an anchor regularly. This means that Virat Kohli will have to sacrifice his opening slot to bring balance to the batting unit. If Virat Kohli moves down the order, RCB will have two options, either make Bracewell open with Faf or bring in a new player like Finn Allen who can open with Faf at the top.
