Daryl Mitchell, the versatile New Zealand cricketer, showcased his exceptional form in the 2023 World Cup, leaving a lasting impression with his remarkable century against India in the semifinal. His elegant and composed innings, marked by nine fours and seven sixes, underlined his prowess as a dependable batsman. As the IPL 2024 auction approaches, Mitchell, who played for Rajasthan Royals in 2022, is expected to be a sought-after player. In this article, we explore 3 IPL teams that should target Daryl Mitchell for the next season.

Despite New Zealand’s loss to India in the 2023 World Cup semifinal, Daryl Mitchell’s batting heroics did not go unnoticed. Scoring an impressive 134 runs in 119 balls, Mitchell demonstrated a perfect blend of elegance and calmness, earning praise for his ability to adapt and anchor an innings. His T20 stats are equally impressive, boasting an average of 30.79 and a strike rate of 135.14 in 169 innings, with 18 half-centuries to his name.

    1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

The current IPL champions, CSK, have a formidable overseas lineup. However, concerns surrounding Ben Stokes’ knee surgery might create an opportunity for a batting all-rounder like Daryl Mitchell. Despite being 32, Mitchell’s versatility in batting, especially against spin, could add value to CSK’s flexible lineup. Even if his bowling is not the highlight, CSK has ample all-rounders, making Mitchell a suitable addition to the team’s composition. His adaptability and recent form make him a player of interest for the Yellow Army.

    2. Gujarat Titans (GT)

The Gujarat Titans, making an impact since their debut in 2022, are on the lookout for additional overseas options. Mitchell’s consistent performances and T20 match-winning abilities make him an attractive prospect for the Titans. If David Miller faces a lean patch in IPL 2024, Mitchell could seamlessly step in, providing flexibility in the batting order. A potential return to the league for Mitchell seems likely, and the Titans might view him as a strategic buy in the IPL 2024 auction.

    3. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

KKR has traditionally relied on the West Indian pair of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine for their overseas slots. However, their fast bowling department needs reinforcement. Mitchell, with his potential comfort at Eden Gardens, could serve as a valuable backup to the top-order match-winners like Jason Roy and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. KKR, known for its struggles with overseas backups, could benefit from Mitchell’s versatility, offering coverage for multiple roles based on the team’s requirements.
