Heavy rain has delayed the return of IPL 2025 by one day. The match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), scheduled for Saturday, May 17, was abandoned with no result. Both teams were awarded one point each. With this, defending champions KKR are now out of the race for the playoffs, while Bangalore has climbed to the top of the current season’s points table.

The IPL had been paused for a week due to tensions between India and Pakistan. The remaining matches of the season were supposed to resume from May 17. However, rain started on Saturday evening at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and continued late into the night, forcing the match to be cancelled.

This was going to be Virat Kohli’s first match after announcing his retirement from Test cricket on May 12. Fans came wearing white jerseys with the number 18 to pay tribute to him. One fan even got a tattoo of Virat Kohli on his body.
