The IPL 2025 auction is generating significant excitement for several reasons. After meeting with the owners of all 10 franchises to discuss various inputs, the BCCI is preparing to make a crucial announcement regarding the IPL retention policy. Fans and teams alike are eagerly awaiting this verdict, but when exactly will the BCCI reveal the details?

The BCCI is expected to announce the IPL 2025 mega auction retention rules, with the announcement likely to take place by the end of August, as reported by Cricbuzz. The retention rules will be crucial for teams as they prepare for the auction, scheduled for the end of the year. The expectation is that the BCCI will finalize these rules by the end of this month, allowing franchises to strategize more effectively, knowing they can retain up to four players.

The current IPL retention policy has become a hot topic, especially in light of MS Dhoni’s situation. Many franchises are pushing for an increase in the number of players they can retain. Under the current rules, a franchise can retain a maximum of three Indian players and two overseas players before the auction. However, there is growing support among franchises to raise this limit to eight. Additionally, some reports suggest that teams are advocating for the reintroduction of the Right to Match (RTM) option, which was last available in the 2018 auction.
