IPL 2025 is still many months away, but preparations for it have started from now. The next season of the Indian Premier League will be special because before that there is a mega auction to be held, in which players from all over the world will be auctioned. There is speculation that the mega auction can be held in December this year, for which the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has contacted all 10 franchises regarding some decisions.
It is being told that BCCI has contacted all the franchises and raised some issues, including the rule of retaining players. But the biggest issue raised is what will be the salary cap of the teams. Salary cap means how much money will be in the purse of each franchise, using which it can buy players in the auction. The salary cap of 2024 was INR 100 crore, that is, each franchise had a maximum of INR 100 crore to prepare its squad. But now there is a demand to increase the salary cap by 20 percent.
According to reports, all the franchise owners have demanded a 20 percent increase in the salary cap in front of BCCI. Let us tell you that the salary cap was increased by 5 percent when it came from 2023 to 2024. That is, it was brought from INR 95 crore to INR 100 crore. It is being told that before the mega auction of IPL 2025, there can be an increase of at least 10 percent in the salary cap, but a 20 percent increase is also completely possible. That is, if we look at the salary cap of 10 teams, then it goes above INR 10 billion together.

The more money the franchise has, the more money it will want to spend on its favorite players. Talking about the IPL 2024 auction, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins were 2 such players on whom bids of more than INR crores were placed. Starc became the most expensive player in the history of IPL as KKR bought him for INR 24.75 crore. Now if teams have more money in their purse, then the salary of the players will definitely increase in the coming years.
