IPL Mega Auction Day 1: 84 Players Set to Be Auctioned

On the morning of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Mega Auction, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a comprehensive timeline and guidelines detailing how the two-day proceedings will unfold. A key guideline addresses the raised bid value when a Right to Match (RTM) option is exercised, highlighting its significance in the auction process.

On Sunday, November 24, 84 players will go under the hammer, with the auction scheduled to begin at 3.30 PM IST (1 PM local time). The auction will start with the much-anticipated marquee lists, which are divided into two groups, each featuring six players. The first group includes Jos Buttler, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh, and Mitchell Starc. The second group consists of Yuzvendra Chahal, Liam Livingstone, David Miller, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj. These marquee sets are expected to absorb a significant portion of the INR 641.5 crore purse available across the franchises.

After the marquee sets, a lunch break is scheduled, and the auction will continue with Capped Batters, followed by All-Rounders and Wicketkeepers. A 15-minute break will follow, after which Capped Bowlers will be auctioned. Another 10-minute break will precede the final set of Day 1, which will include the first set of Uncapped Players, featuring seven players. Big names like Faf du Plessis, Kane Williamson, Prithvi Shaw, and Ajinkya Rahane will be up for bidding on Monday.

Day 2 will cover the remaining players, starting from Player No. 116. The accelerated process will begin once this group is reached, with franchises required to submit a list of 25 players for the fast-tracked phase. In total, 577 players are available, with 204 potential slots to fill, including up to 70 overseas players.

The BCCI has also outlined the bidding increments as follows:

  • 0 – INR 1 Cr: 5L
  • INR 1 – 2 Cr: 10L
  • INR 2 – 5 Cr: 20L
  • INR 5 Cr+: 25L

For example, if a player’s base price is INR 1.25 crore, the second bid must be at least INR 1.3 crore.
