Neesham commenced his first-class cricket journey with Auckland, but his transfer to the Otago Volts turned out to be a beneficial move. During the 2011/12 season, he made significant contributions in the 50-over format, securing three scores of over 40 runs in seven innings, all at a rate exceeding a run per ball. His performance with the ball was also noteworthy, with a career-best 5 for 44 against Wellington and 4 for 23 against Canterbury. His efforts did not go unnoticed, as he earned a spot in the limited-overs squads for the South Africa tour.

Neesham’s talents were recognized in various T20 leagues around the world. He was picked by Delhi Daredevils in IPL season 7 and represented Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2014 Caribbean Premier League. He also played for Derbyshire in the 2016 English NatWest t20 Blast. In June 2017, he signed up to play for Kent County Cricket Club in the 2017 NatWest t20 Blast, making his debut in July.

In June 2019, he was selected to play for the Edmonton Royals franchise team in the 2019 Global T20 Canada tournament. The Indian Premier League (IPL) also came calling, with Neesham being acquired by the Kings XI Punjab in the 2020 IPL auction and subsequently by the Mumbai Indians in 2021. In February 2022, he joined the Rajasthan Royals after being bought in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League tournament.
