India has dominated the international cricket world with their players who have produced exceptional performances at every stage. The Indian cricket has been phenomenal in this Under-19 World Cup too and hold a breath-taking record throughout the tournament.
India began their successful journey in under 19 World cup from 2000, when Team India under-19, lead by Mohammad Kaif emerged champions of the tournament. Since then India has showcase their ability on the international stage and have emerged victorious 4 times. Following under Virat Kohli in 2008 then Unmukt Chand in 2012 and under Prithvi Shaw in 2018.
The U-19 World Cup has benefited the senior Indian team massively, as it produced some of the greatest players including Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kohli and many more name.
The Indian cricket group of 2022 is performing exceptionally well in the ongoing under 19 cricket World Cup and have reached the finale stage, where they will lock their hands with England on 5th February 2022 for the trophy. India were runner-ups in the previous edition and expectations are high from the boys to bring the trophy back home.
If Yash Dhull manages to lift the trophy, then he will be joining the list of elite captains of under-19 who won the World Cup for Indian team.
Let’s have a look at India’s history at the finale of U-19 World Cup Final-
In 2000 – Captain Mohammad Kaif
This year India had the players such as Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Kaif and Reetinder Sodhi. India were facing Sri Lanka opinion the finals who had defeated Australia in quarter finals. Sri Lanka set a target of 179 in front of the Indian side, however India lost their star batters Yuvraj Singh and Kaif cheaply for 27runs & 18runs respectively. But, Sodhi led India to glory and emerged as player of the match too. This was first time India were title holders of U-19 World Cup. Moreover, Yuvraj Singh was adjourned player of the tournament.
In 2006 – Captain Ravikant Shukla
Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara and Piyush Chawla all were in this team and India faced their arch rivals Pakistan in the finals and defended them to a score of 109, although India suffered a humiliating loss as they failed to chase down the total in front of their bowling attack and were all-out for 71 runs.
In 2008 – Captain Virat Kohli
India won the rain affected final by 12 runs through D/L method against South Africa. Captain Kohli won the trophy in Kaula Lumpur and it remains his only ICC trophy till date.
In 2012 – Captain Unmukt Chand
Unmukt Chand performed brilliantly and laid an example for his team by scoring a century in the finals against Australia, while chasing a total of 226. India won their 3rd trophy title by 6 wickets.
In 2016 – Captain Ishan Kishan
The team flooded with star players like Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, Avesh Khan and many such name. Yet, they failed to defend a total of 145 against the West Indies side, which truly was an upset.

In 2018- Captain Prithvi Shaw
This World Cup seems like it happened yesterday only, the young Indian side coached by Rahul Dravid were undefeated in their campaign in World Cup. India were facing the mighty Australia in the finals and needed 217 runs to emerge as cup winner and with the help of Manjot Kalra’s century.

In 2020- Captain Priyam Garg
The players like Priyam Garg, Yashaswi Jaiswal and Ravi Bishnoi, who all impressed the IPL franchise enough to be picked by them in the auction. However, India crumbled in the finals against Bangladesh even after Yashaswi Jaiswal knock of 88 Runs, after which India collapsed to set the total of 177. Bangladesh won by 3 wickets according to D/L method.
In 2022- Captain Yash Dhull
Yash Dhull captained the India U-19 Team which won the the World Cup for India for a record fifth time in the history of U-19 World Cup. Interestingly Uday Saharan, who captained India U-19 in the 2024 U-19 World Cup was named as one of the reserves in 2022 squad of India.
In 2024- Captain Uday Saharan
Uday Pratap Saharan captained the India U-19 Team in World Cup 2024. This Indian Cricket Team was called to be one of the weakest ever managed to reach the finals. Uday Saharan and his men surprised everyone with their team play in the tournament. Sarfaraz Khan’s brother Musheer Khan was also the part of this India U-19 Team.
