The absence of KL Rahul from the squad for the upcoming tour of Ireland has raised eyebrows among Indian cricket enthusiasts. Many anticipated his inclusion in the team for the three-match T20I series, considering it as an opportunity for much-needed match practice before the Asia Cup and the World Cup.

While Jasprit Bumrah found his way into the squad, KL Rahul’s exclusion has left the cricketing community puzzled, leading to speculation that the wicketkeeper-batsman might not have fully recovered from his injury.

KL Rahul’s last competitive appearance dates back to May 1 when he suffered a thigh injury during a match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2023. Following surgery in London, he embarked on rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

In recent times, KL Rahul shared a positive update on his fitness, showcasing his ease while batting and keeping wickets in a video shared on his social media platforms. However, the BCCI is yet to provide a final update on his fitness and availability.

According to a news sports agency, clarity on KL Rahul’s availability is expected to emerge by the weekend or early next week. This anticipation aligns with his participation in a practice game in Bengaluru. The report suggests that KL Rahul might need to participate in a couple of matches before a conclusive decision is made regarding his re-entry into international cricket.

The report also indicates that KL Rahul’s fitness is still not at full capacity, and the National Cricket Academy has not yet granted approval to the BCCI and the selection panel regarding his readiness. However, his situation is expected to improve by the time of the selection panel’s meeting.

Team India eagerly awaits KL Rahul’s swift return to the field in preparation for the Asia Cup and the crucial World Cup. The Asia Cup is slated to commence on August 30, with India’s first match scheduled against Pakistan on September 2. However, a definitive decision regarding KL Rahul’s participation will hinge on his ability to showcase full fitness in both batting and wicket-keeping, particularly in a 50-over game.
