KL Rahul’s animated conversation with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjeev Goenka during an IPL 2024 match has sparked speculation about his future with the franchise. Despite Goenka’s assertion that Rahul is a key part of the LSG family, the possibility of Rahul leaving remains, especially with a mega auction scheduled before the next IPL season. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is among the teams linked with the star batter.
Rahul has a history with RCB, having played four seasons for them between 2013 and 2016. Recently, in a viral video, Rahul responded to an RCB fan’s query about his potential return to the team, saying, “Let’s hope so.”
Goenka addressed the speculation during Zaheer Khan’s appointment as the team’s mentor. “I’ve been meeting KL regularly over the past three years. I’m surprised this meeting gained so much attention. We haven’t made any decisions yet; we’re waiting for the retention rules to be announced,” Goenka told reporters.

He continued, “KL has been an integral part of the LSG family since its inception. He’s like family to us and will continue to be.” On the matter of player retention and captaincy, Goenka mentioned that decisions would be made once the BCCI releases the new retention policies, which are expected to be clarified in the coming months.
