The IPL 2024 is set to kick off with the league stage scheduled from March 22. With the first match played between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Like its last two seasons, the tournament will feature ten teams competing in a double round-robin format, culminating in playoffs consisting of the Eliminator, two Qualifiers, and the Final. Major Changes in Captaincy and Coaching Staff for IPL 2024
Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Sunrisers Hyderabad will have new captains, while there are uncertainties regarding the captains of Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, with news suggesting retention of the previous season’s captains.
Following Hardik Pandya’s trade to Mumbai Indians, Shubman Gill has been named the captain of Gujarat Titans. Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma as the skipper of Mumbai Indians for IPL 2024. Pat Cummins, the second most expensive player in IPL history, has been appointed as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, replacing Aiden Markram.
While Rishabh Pant is expected to make his return, it is uncertain if he will be fully fit to lead Delhi Capitals. There is a possibility that David Warner, who led the side last season in Pant’s absence, may continue to captain the side this year.
Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Rajasthan Royals will be led by the captains from last season, while Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders will see the return of their regular skippers.
Most franchises have also announced their coaching and backroom staff for the upcoming season. Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bangalore will have new coaching setups.
