Former captain Mohammad Hafeez has resigned from the PCB’s Cricket Technical Committee ahead of the ODI World Cup, following a review meeting that discussed Pakistan’s performance in the Asia Cup.
During the review session, two changes were proposed for the World Cup squad, with pacer Zaman Khan and spinner Abrar Ahmed likely to replace the injured Naseem Shah and allrounder Faheem Ashraf when the final 15-member squad is announced.
Hafeez expressed his gratitude for the opportunity but decided to step down from the technical committee. The review meeting, attended by various cricket officials, including captain Babar Azam and head coach Grant Bradburn, sparked controversy as chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq chose not to attend. Inzamam disagreed with the timing of the review and believed it was essential to support and encourage the team instead of subjecting them to scrutiny.

Despite the uncomfortable questions faced by Babar and Bradburn during the meeting, no major changes were proposed for the team, including a new captain. Inzamam will still travel to India for the World Cup, as per his contract, and the decision on traveling reserves for the World Cup remains with the chief selector and captain, with opener Shan Masood expected to be among them.
