Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has been recovering from an injury for over a year now, and since India’s disappointing loss in the 2023 ODI World Cup, he has not featured in any international matches. His absence from the team has raised questions about his potential return, especially with reports suggesting he might be included in the squad for the second Test match.
However, the latest update reveals that Shami will not be joining the team for the second Test. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has confirmed that they have not received any official communication regarding Shami’s inclusion in the Australian tour.

A spokesperson from the CAB clarified that there have been no discussions about sending Shami to Australia, at least for now. This suggests that the pacer’s recovery and return to international cricket are still uncertain.
The spokesperson further mentioned that the fast bowlers currently chosen for the tour and those included in the playing XI for the opening Test in Perth have been performing well. Therefore, Shami’s return will not be necessary at this moment, as the team has been able to manage without him.
