Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma is set to break a record set by former Indian captain MS Dhoni in the upcoming tour against New Zealand. The current record is for the most sixes hit in India by an Indian player in One Day Internationals (ODI) and Sharma has already equaled this record by hitting 3 sixes during his 42-run knock in the 3rd ODI against Sri Lanka.
The Indian team recently completed a 3-0 whitewash of Sri Lanka in the ODI series and has now shifted focus to the upcoming tour against New Zealand, which will be played in India. The tour will consist of 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is, with the ODI series starting on January 18th, 2023.
During the final ODI against Sri Lanka, the Indian team broke several records, including the biggest win by a 317 runs margin in ODIs. The team will be looking to replicate this performance against the Black Caps.
Rohit Sharma, who recently completed 50 innings without a century, will also be looking to break the record of MS Dhoni for the most ODI sixes hit in India. Sharma currently has 123 sixes, the same as Dhoni, and is fourth on the overall list of most ODI sixes with 263. The record is considered a major one in Indian cricket and Sharma will be looking to claim it in the opening ODI against New Zealand.
