Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium is very small in terms of the capacity of the people. Although Wankhede is a historic stadium, now a new stadium is being considered in Mumbai. The new stadium will be about 4 times bigger than Wankhede, which means the seating capacity of the people in the new stadium will be about 4 times more than Wankhede. Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis talked about this new stadium.
Recently, Team India won the 2024 T20 World Cup title in Barbados. After returning from Barbados, the champion team India also did a victory parade with an open bus in Mumbai. After this victory and victory parade, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dubey, who come from Mumbai in Team India, were invited to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Rohit Sharma also gave a speech in Marathi in the Legislative Assembly.
Now after all these things, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis talked about the new stadium. He said that now Mumbai needs a modern stadium. A stadium that has the capacity to seat even more spectators. Devendra Fadnavis said, “Mumbai now needs a bigger stadium than Wankhede. I know that Wankhede is a historic stadium but now Mumbai needs a new stadium with a capacity of more than 1 lakh and we will try to build it in the coming time.” However, no date has been announced for the construction of the new stadium.
History of Wankhede Stadium
Wankhede Stadium was built in 1974 and has a seating capacity of about 32,000. This is the same historic ground where Team India won the 2011 ODI World Cup final under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Dhoni lifted the 2011 ODI World Cup trophy from this ground by hitting a six.
